Decision makers need to apply some 21st Century science-based Integrative Thinking to World affairs instead of perpetuating 19th Century approaches which lead to armed conflict and other global problems and the dreadful consequences thereof.

If they did so they might see the solutions are:-

a Help fund the SDG’s and climate change from military budgets (renamed security budgets). These budgets are approximately $US 1.7 trillion a year.

b Adopt a “development from below” approach such as Integrative Improvement: Sustainable Development as if People and their Physical, Social and Cultural Environments Mattered.

c Implement the Integrative Improvement Institutes Project so all involved now and in future are educated in Integrative Thinking, Integrative Problem Solving, Integrative Governance and planning and implementing “development from below”.

There seems to be a leap of logic there. A dog’s breakfast is classically coupled with disagreements between stakeholder groups. Everyone puts forward their bits without thinking whether their bits fit into the coherent whole. In the case of SDGs, the goals and targets are explicitly linked. With more scientific inputs, the UN Statistical Commission is developing ‘systems’ of goals and targets to help improve policy coherence and implementation. This piece needs to take in the recent developments of the SDGs to present a more balanced view of an early agenda.

Perhaps the UN could organise a conference to develop an overall financing strategy based on financing the SDGs from the World military budgets of approximately $US 1.7 trillion.

The existence of poverty and extreme inequality make people discontented and hence are the root cause of armed conflict.
