We support a growing number of women who have called police for help while they were being abused, but ended up with a DVO against them (and tell us that they will never contact police again). Interpreters are rarely used and the person using violence is often more proficient in English , as they work outside the home, so the woman’s voice is not heard. I also believe there would be unintended consequences for women, if coercive control was criminalised.
