Philip Hayward

Philip Hayward is founding editor of Shima, the online journal of island and maritime cultures, and is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Communication at the University of Technology Sydney.

He has researched extensively in the south eastern Pacific and in the islands of southern Japan and has written a number of books and articles on island and marine issues. His current research involves the analysis of aquapelagos – integrated terrestrial and marine spaces generated by human livelihood activities. When he is not researching he is involved in rainforest restoration in far north New South Wales.
