Melissa Marschke is an Associate Professor at the School of International Development and Global Studies, University of Ottawa (Canada), where she teaches courses on resources, livelihoods, and sustainability, along with advanced qualitative research methods.

Melissa’s research interests are in the broad area of human-environment relations, with a particular interest in resource governance (community based management, adaptive co-management, certification) and social sustainability (labour conditions) in the fisheries sector, livelihood transitions in coastal villages, and on-going social-ecological change.

She completed her longitudinal monograph `Life, Fish and Mangroves: Resource governance in coastal Cambodia` (U Ottawa Press) in 2012.  Her publications have appeared in journals such as Marine Policy, Ecology and Society, Environmental Science & Policy, International Journal of the Commons, and Global Environmental Change.
