Dr Cameron Parsell is an Australian Research Council Senior Research Fellow. His research career is directed toward generating an evidence base about how people use social services, what forms social services assume, and what impact social services have on people who are materially and socially excluded.
He came to research after working as a social worker in homeless accommodation, social housing and child protection. Cameron works closely with social welfare groups, community organisations, social housing providers and governments across Australia. He is examining how people use and avoid formal and informal resources to change the conditions of their lives. In partnership with organisations funding and delivering a range of social services, Cameron is interested in identifying the aspirations and life trajectories of people using social services, and what societal mechanism enable people to achieve their life objectives.
